    Geger Beach
    Attractions/Beaches

Forget the crowds of Kuta and the bohemian hustle of Seminyak!

Geger (Geger Beach) or Gerga – is a breath of Balinese air and silence, hidden in the very heart of fashionable Nusa Dua.

A cascade of rocks protects it from the wind, and the ancient Pura Geger temple gives the place a mystical aura.

We will tell you all the secrets of a perfect day at Geger Beach: from the route to life hacks for surfers and seekers of peaceful recreation.

    How to get there

The beach is located in South Bali, in the resort zone of Nusa Dua (literally "Two Islands").

    You can get there:
    • By taxi or transfer - this is the most convenient way from other regions (Denpasar, Kuta, Seminyak). Tell the driver "Geger Beach" or "Pura Geger".
    • Renting a scooter / motorbike. Freedom of movement and quite budget-friendly.
    Free parking for bikes/cars available:
    • At the top of the staircase leading to the beach (near Pura Geger).
    • Car can be parked a little further along Jalan Pantai Geger. Be ready for a short walk.

    Description

Black sand – the calling card of this place. It is soft, cool in the morning and creates an incredible contrast with the turquoise ocean and white foam of the waves. Where did it come from? All this is the result of millennia of erosion of volcanic basalt lava and rocks of Mount Agung.
The water here is crystal clear and ideal for swimming in season.
Natural rocky protrusions form cozy little coves where you can take great photos!
And nearby is Pura Geger Temple – a sacred place on top of the cliff. Statues of Garuda (mythical bird of god Vishnu) and other deities stand immovably above the waves.

Respect the silence and place of prayer. You can enter the temple territory only in a sarong (often issued at the entrance).

    FAQ

    Are currents dangerous?

Can be strong in rainy season. Better to check conditions the day before and not go deep alone.

    How much is the entrance?

The beach itself is free! You only pay for motorbike parking (~$0.3-0.5), sun lounger rental ($2-5), shower (~$0.5-1) and food in cafes.

Is the beach suitable for children?

Yes, in good weather. Shallow water near the shore, calm waves (but not always), clean sand for castles. Unfortunately, no playgrounds.

Can I visit Pura Geger Temple?

Yes! But wear a sarong and sash (selempang) – they are issued at the entrance for free or for a small donation. Behave quietly and respectfully. Only worshippers may enter the inner sanctum (shrine).

Recommend a decent cafe with a view?

    Top 3 to choose from:

    • Juice Ja: fresh juices, smoothie bowls, avocado toasts, amazing sunsets. And even hammocks!
    • Pelangi Beach Hut: seafood grill (fish, shrimp), traditional Indonesian cuisine, cocktails. Tables right on the sand.
    • Geger Beach Restaurant (at Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa): slightly higher prices, but excellent service, ocean breeze and set meals.

    Conclusion

Geger Beach – a find for those tired of pastoral postcards of Bali. This is an island of unique nature, where the power of the volcano is reflected in every grain of sand, and the temple reminds of the spiritual strength of the island.

It is created for three types of travelers: romantic couples seeking seclusion by the water; beginner surfers testing their skills; pragmatists who need a clean beach without crowds next to Nusa Dua infrastructure.
