    Sanur Beach
    Attractions/Beaches

Looking for a beach with an atmosphere of tranquility? Head to Sanur – Bali's oldest beach, perfectly suited for leisurely relaxation away from the hustle of southern beaches.

If the emblem of Kuta and Seminyak is bustling nightlife, then Sanur is sunrises, quiet rustle of palms and transparent waters with corals.

This is the ideal place for family holidays and immersion in the underwater world.

Let's get to know this place better!

    Description

Sanur is the pioneer of Balinese tourism, its history as a resort spans decades, but instead of turning into a noisy metropolis, it has retained the rare charm of a provincial oasis.

Here there is complete balance: all necessary tourist infrastructure exists, but at the same time peace and a special "home-like" friendliness reign.

This place is created for families with children, couples in love, seekers of contemplative relaxation and fans of safe snorkeling.

Sanur's shoreline is several kilometers, conventionally divided into zones with different degrees of development ("mini-resorts"). Uniting them is the main beach landscape: wide strips of soft sand in golden and light beige shades. Sand is not as fine as in Nusa Dua, but pleasant.

    How to get there

~25-35 minutes by car/taxi from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS).

You can take a taxi, order a transfer from the hotel (including from us!), rent a car or bike.

And inside Sanur itself it's easy to move around on foot or by bicycle.

    Advantages

Sanur's main treasure is the azure lagoon, protected from ocean waves by a chain of coral reefs running parallel to the shore.

    This creates unique conditions:

    • Safety and calm. Waves? Practically none. Entry into water is very gradual, ideal for toddlers and beginner swimmers.
    • World of tides. The sea here lives by its own cycles. During low tide water can recede tens of meters, exposing the bottom. This complicates swimming near shore, but... it's the best time for easy snorkeling!
    • Snorkeling paradise. Reefs are Sanur's main entertainment. Here the underwater world amazes with diversity: tropical fish (clowns, surgeonfish, wrasses), corals, sea urchins, stars. Water shoes are mandatory! You can explore everything yourself in shallow water near shore (e.g., at Merta Sari Beach) or take a short boat trip to reefs or neighboring islands for deeper dives.
    • Other activities. Kayaks and SUP boards are popular, catamaran sailing trips offered.

    Infrastructure

    Everything needed exists:

    • Food and drinks. Abundance of beach cafes and restaurants (from simple to elite). Prices – from budget to high.
    • Sunbeds and umbrellas. Rental available, cost around $1.5-4 per day, often included if food/drinks ordered.
    • Swimming, accessible even for children. Shallow water and no waves – ideal environment for swimming. Lifeguards work on beaches.
    • Hygiene. Public toilets and showers on the beach (often paid for a small fee).

    What's nearby?

Sanur doesn't end at the beach:

    • Sanur Beach Promenade. Calling card! Stretches ~5 km along the shore under the shade of age-old trees. Ideal for walks, morning jogs, cycling (can rent). Literally strewn with cozy cafes and atmospheric restaurants with sea views – excellent place for breakfast or dinner at sunset.
    • Sindhu Market (Pasar Sindhu). Legendary traditional market – cultural immersion experience. Fresh fruits, vegetables, seafood, souvenirs, fabrics in large quantities.
    • Cultural attractions. Nearby – ancient Blanjong Temple with 10th century stone pillar. Le Mayeur Museum, dedicated to Belgian expatriate artist and preserving original atmosphere of his home-studio.
    • Evening life. Restaurants and bars with live music (often quite calm), not noisy nightclubs. Atmosphere of relaxed but beautiful life.

    Traveler tips

    • Watch tides/low tides.
    • Water shoes – MUST-HAVE. Protect feet from corals and sea urchins!
    • Sun protection. Hat, high SPF cream (especially for children), water. Risk of burning very high.
    • Don't leave valuables unattended on beach. Use hotel safes.
    • Respect local traditions. Wear clothing covering knees and shoulders at temples. Don't disturb marine flora and fauna – strict ban on collecting corals and damaging reefs.
    • Rent room nearby. Hotels in northern Sanur (Mimpi Resort) allow faster access to best snorkeling spots from land.

    FAQ

Are there waves in Sanur? Suitable for children?

Waves practically absent due to coral barrier. Gradual entry into sea and shallow water make it one of the safest and most ideal beaches in Bali for children.

    Is Sanur good for snorkeling?

This is one of the best snorkeling spots in Bali! Reefs – within walking distance from shore (in some spots), especially at low tide. To reach deeper parts of reef you can use junk boats or take a short trip to Serangan islands.

Is there a normal sandy beach? Or lots of corals?

Wide sandy beaches – yes. But since reef is close to shore, at water's edge and on bottom corals and stones are abundantly present. Taking water shoes is mandatory!

What to do in Sanur besides beach?

Walks on foot or bike ride along magnificent Promenade promenade, visit colorful Pasar Sindhu market, acquaintance with culture in temples and museums (Blanjong, Le Mayeur), visit restaurants, relaxed evenings in quiet bars.

What's the best time of year to visit?

Dry season (May – October) ideal for sunbathing and snorkeling. But generally can visit year-round.

Is Sanur suitable for youth party scene?

Not really, Sanur is not a center of nightclubs and bars. It will suit those who value peace and quiet atmosphere. If main goal is wild parties, this is not your choice.

    Conclusion

Sanur is a special beach in Bali where time flows slower, and the main measures of relaxation are peace and quiet contemplation.

Come – and feel this unique harmony of serenity on the lagoon shore.
