More about places
Mount Agung is Bali’s highest and most sacred volcano, standing 3,142 meters high. It is an active stratovolcano considered a sacred mountain where, according to local beliefs, the gods reside. Agung is known for its powerful activity; its last major eruption occurred in 1963, and the volcano also showed activity in 2017, with ash and lava emissions. Climbing to the summit is a challenging feat requiring good physical fitness: the trek takes 5–8 hours, but the summit offers impressive panoramic views and the chance to watch the sunrise, making the ascent an unforgettable experience.
