Ijen Volcano is an active volcanic complex located on the island of Java, relatively close to Bali. It is famous for its unique turquoise acidic lake, Kawah Ijen, and the world’s largest acidic lake. Ijen is also known for the nighttime phenomenon of burning sulfur’s blue flames, which attracts many tourists. The hike to the crater takes 2–3 hours and requires respiratory protection because of the intense sulfur fumes.
